The Benefits Of Holiday Travel Insurance

by Oliver Turner

Tourism is a growing industry worldwide. So are undesirable things like terrorism, flight crashes, accidents, wars, disease, natural calamities etc. Any experienced traveler can tell you that travel is full of uncertainties. But it is not possible to sit at home afraid of calamities. Holiday travel insurance is one way of mitigating the financial risk of such unforeseen events or calamities.

There are a variety of holiday travel insurance policies available today on the internet or the market. It is easy to get confused with so many offers. However most holiday travel insurance policies have certain basic benefits which are common. Holiday travel insurance policies usually provide coverage for:

Trip cancellation/interruptions. Trip cancellation/interruptions due to a variety of reasons like death of an immediate family member, weather, sudden illness, bankruptcy of airliner, jury duty, terrorist activities etc.

Medical costs. Costs incurred for doctor visits, medicines, treatment, surgery etc and some policies even provide coverage for costs of medical evacuation to nearest medical facility.

Accidents. Accidents or calamities like earthquakes, tsunami, storms etc and the related costs. Some policies also provide vehicle accident costs. These are especially useful when going for a driving holiday to a foreign country. Most of your regular policies for auto insurance only provide insurance within the United States and do not provide for accidents out of the US.

Baggage Loss. Costs incurred for loss of baggage and valuable is also covered by most travel insurance policies. These are especially useful when going out for a shopping holiday for antiques, valuables, jewelry or electronics.

All the above-mentioned costs are borne by the travel insurance company depending upon the travel insurance policy. Before purchasing the policy read the fine print carefully, especially the parts covering, deductibles, co-insurance, specific limits, exclusions, hotline numbers and emergency services. Purchasing a policy for a family works out cheaper. Purchasing a policy online also works out cheaper as you do not have to pay for the insurance agent.

Travel Insurance? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Travel Insurance! (do We?)

by Tina Irasthmus

Should you have travel insurance? An interesting question. But if you question the need for travel insurance, perhaps you are the same person who questions the need for any kind of insurance. Most people have auto insurance, health insurance, homeowners’ insurance or renters’ insurance, and maybe even life insurance or disability insurance – so I ask you: Why not have travel have travel insurance?

Insurance is for “What if’s”

Insurance is protection for that unwanted and unexpected challenge. Your auto insurance protects you from shelling out $2,000 for that unexpected fender bender that wasn’t even your fault. Travel insurance does likewise. Have you ever had luggage “misplaced” by an airline and been left with no clothes to wear on your trip? Have you ever had to cancel a trip that was fully paid due to some unforeseen incident that arose before you even had an opportunity to leave? Or have you had to cut short that cruise because of something that happened at home? Ever gotten sick on vacation?

These are all travel problems that can be covered by travel insurance. One company I reviewed will reimburse your trip cost for covered (always read the small print) cancellation, and 125% of the cost due to an interruption of the trip. They will also pay $500 for your accommodations if you missed your connecting flight and can’t get another until “tomorrow morning, at the earliest.” Ever slept in an airport on behalf of your Atlanta-based flight crew, who were very happy to serve you, but couldn’t manage to get the airplane to your connecting airport by the time they said they would? A $500 hotel room might not get you to your destination, but it sure could be a sweet wait. Can you say “honor bar?”

Here’s another swell deal: your travel insurance could pay you $1,000 for lost luggage, or $200 for delayed luggage. That’s some pricey underwear and deodorant, but I’m not arguing.

Travel insurance can also be purchased to cover emergency medical treatment or “medical evacuation and repatriation.” Or, if you prefer, you could just click your heels together three times and say, “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place…”

Yeah, but how much is it going to cost me?

The cost of travel insurance is based on the number of people traveling and the value of the trip. Time away can also be a factor if you will be gone for more than a month. For example, a family of four taking a trip valued at about $3,000 could expect to pay in the neighborhood of $250 for all of the coverage mentioned above. Is it worth it? On the website of one travel company it stated, “If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.”

Can I ask my uncle?

Sure. Uncle Sam says medical evacuation from a foreign country can cost $10,000 and up. And in his inimitable way, he warns that Social Security Medicare does not provide coverage for hospital or medical coverage outside of the US. If you have a private insurer, you might want to check on what out-of-country coverage you have if your trip will take you outside of the good ol’ USA.

OK, OK, you’ve convinced me. Any last bits of advice before I leave for Katmandu?

I am so glad you asked. Here’s a little extra for you - at no additional charge:

1. Take all your travel insurance documentation with you – DON’T put it in your luggage!
2. Put all of your policy numbers on a separate piece of paper in a separate location from the actual policies in case of loss or damage to your policies.
3. Leave a copy of your policy(s) at home with next of kin, or whomever knows your whereabouts.
4. To expedite service in case of an accident, fill in all of your vital statistics on the information page of your passport (name, address, phone number, etc.), or carry it on a card that you keep in your wallet or stuffed into the sleeve of that tag that says Hello My Name Is_____.

In a coconut shell…

Travel insurance can help you with:
· Reimbursement of your travel investment due to cancellation or early termination
· Reimbursement of unexpected travel expenses (delays, loss of luggage)
· Covering emergency medical assistance and medical referrals
· Obtaining medical assistance abroad

Bon Voyage!

Cheap Travel Insurance: How To Save Big Time On Coverage... Starting Now!

by Larry Evans

When you plan to travel abroad nowadays, you might be totally surprised how abundant cheap travel deals are being offered both online and offline. That is, if you haven't contacted your travel agents lately or if you have been hibernating in your own country for years or simply don't feel the need for traveling. Anyway, the bottom line is that traveling abroad today is not very expensive as it was before.

Surely, it can be the reason for a celebration. But before you start contacting your travel agents for a quick booking of your trip, you have to realize that when travel is being offered at cheap prices, more and more people are traveling. And when people travel, it increases the risk for people getting involved in an accident. It should not be a problem if these traveling population buy travel insurance to protect them in case things would not go as planned. But the bad news is, travel insurance is neglected - the very reason why people lose their appetite for traveling in case something happen.

Normally, when people talk about travel insurance, they are speaking about wings falling off in mid air or plane unable to properly secure its landing gear. Although these kinds of scenarios are possible during travel and need to be taken into consideration for buying travel insurance, there are more minor incidents where you need to be prepared with and be covered like trip cancellation, trip interruption or delay, medical emergencies including doctor's fee, hospitalization, and emergency evacuation, and property damages and losses.

In addition, the general perception of the travelers with travel insurance is that it is expensive. This causes travel insurance to loose its appeal to travelers. But this thing would stop because like travel fares becoming cheap, insurance are getting the right price it deserves.

And to know more on how to maximize you trip while providing you with peace of mind here's how to get cheap travel insurance you need:

1. Check online for your cheap travel insurance. Usually, the Internet has more to offer when you are looking for cheap travel insurance. One great advantage of searching here is that you can compare instantly the quotes, different cheap travel insurance sites offer. You can check all the available coverage and single out your best choice. With a little time and work, getting cheap travel insurance is not a hard task.

2. Avoid buying cheap travel insurance directly to travel agents. Instead buy it directly from insurance company. Since travel agents earn big commissions, the cheap travel insurance you though was cheap, it not cheap at all. One more point: you can get travel insurance from travel agents twice as high compared to travel insurance companies.

3. Check your existing insurance. Usually, your home insurance would cover your trips abroad. If it does, identify the coverage you need to have that is not included in your existing insurance. This would give save you a lot.

4. Ask for the cheapest rates. Oftentimes, people tend to settle for the insurance that is suggested by the representative of the company. To get the cheapest rates, all you have to do is ask for it, chances are it would be given to you.

These are some of the best ways you can do if you are shopping for cheap travel insurance. But of course, there is no better way to save is to be careful all the time.

Holiday Travel Insurance - Why You Need It!

by Sarah White

We have all faced the question, would you like to purchase holiday travel insurance? Many of us, myself included, are thinking well why would I want to spend more money on that? I know that I am travelling on this particular date, my vacation time is booked and there is nothing that is going to stop me.

Let’s think about this…

The thing about travel is that many times, no matter how far ahead we have booked or how well planned, there are many unexpected things that can occur, some may be minor things and some may not. Maybe you’ve experienced setbacks yourself.

Have you ever considered what would happen if;

1) My travel supplier just declared bankruptcy

Considering all the new travel companies that are popping up every day, not all of them are as financially stable as we think. Having trip cancellation travel insurance and trip interruption insurance can protect you and your vacation investment.

2) I’ve become ill and I’m too sick to travel

Many tickets and vacations are non-refundable. If you or another family member suddenly becomes ill, having trip cancellation travel insurance and trip interruption insurance allows you to be fully reimbursed should such a situation occur.

3) You’ve missed your flight connection due to flight delays

There are times (don’t I know it!) that you arrive at your connecting city but your connecting flight is long gone. You may need a hotel and meals for the night, or you’ve booked a cruise but your cruise ship has left, what do you do?! Having travel delay protection will cover the costs relating to your delay.

4) My wallet or purse has just been stolen!

Here is a very real fear that most of us don’t like to think about but unfortunately, even in the best of places, theft can occur. Knowing that there are 24 hr emergency services on hand to assist with reporting lost cards and having emergency funds ready to transfer ensures that help is always just a phone call away.

5) Holiday Travel Insurance covers you where your Health Insurance may not. Medical emergencies can occur when you are visiting a foreign destination. Without travel health insurance coverage, you would be responsible for footing the bill, and chances are, it’s not going to be a small amount!

These are just some of the many reasons you may want to consider before declining that offer for holiday travel insurance. If you are booking online as many people are doing these days, take a look for an online travel insurance company that can offer you a solution. Make sure to look for travel insurance comparisons, you will be able to find cheap holiday travel insurance.

Always remember that travelling is one of the best things in the world, but as with all good things, there are always unexpected circumstances that can arise. Holiday travel insurance may be one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family. For a small fee and the right insurance travel plan products, you can be rest assured that you are completely covered to fully enjoy that vacation!

Travel Insurance, Tips, Advice & Resources For Seniors

by JO GODDEN

RIDDLE! What is it? They spend thousands encouraging us to buy it. We are advised never to go on holiday without it. But when we want to buy it, they don't want to sell it to us.
Read on ...........

So after much deliberation we have chosen the holiday destination, sorted out the flights, and already we are picturing ourselves languishing on warm sands with the inviting blue sea stretching before us, and we just have the minor formality of the holiday travel insurance and then all the arrangements will be complete. Did I say MINOR? Well, yes, holiday insurance was once just a minor formality, but now for retired folk or senior citizens it has become a MAJOR, MAJOR problem. (In fact, when talking to friends it appears that holiday insurance has replaced house prices as the after dinner discussion). The problem is not just about how health affects the cost of insurance but it's about how age affects the cost of insurance. Isn't it amazing how an insurance company can take your annual holiday insurance payments for years, you have never made a claim, and suddenly because you have just passed a certain birthday you are too risky to consider. Your medical history may be fine, in fact you may be fitter than the 30 year old couch potato on the end of the telephone, but that doesn't count - the only thing that counts is the date on your birth certificate. And when you do find an insurance company who will cover you, you find that the premium costs more than the holiday.

However, one thing is certain, WE MUST HAVE HOLIDAY TRAVEL INSURANCE (you realize how essential it is when you consider that an air ambulance from the USA will set you back approx £35,000), and another important point is to be honest when declaring your medical history, because Insurance Companies are not charities and will possibly look into your medical history hoping to find some information (however slight you may have considered it at the time it was recorded) to avoid paying for example that air ambulance cost from the USA.

A timely reminder that the E111 was discontinued on 31 December 05 and was replaced by the EHIC (the European Health Insurance Card), which you can obtain from the Post Office or www.dh.gov.uk. It is useful to take this, but it is definitely not a substitute for personal holiday insurance.

And whilst on the subject of European holidays; a couple of years back we met a group of Spanish pensioners having a great time on the Costa del Sol. We found out why it was such a joyous occasion, it came courtesy of the Spanish Government - the Government treats senior citizens to a week's free holiday. On reflection, it could possibly work out cheaper for the National Health if our senior citizens were sent to warmer climes during the winter when bronchitis and respiratory problems abound. Mr Brown, it's food for thought. After all, he informs us that in 2008 we shall be receiving free bus travel throughout the country, so perhaps we can but dream that the boundaries be extended somewhat. However, there is still the problem of the necessary holiday travel insurance.

A recent survey found that 9 out of 10 annual travel policies impose an upper age limit. It is slightly easier to obtain single trip policies: but this can work out expensive is you plan to take more than a couple of holidays a year. Here are a few worth contacting, but do shop around as prices vary enormously –
